BUS
There is an excellent public bus service to Penarth from Cardiff City Centre. Buses run every 10 minutes in the daytime until 6.30pm in the evening, and half-hourly after that until 11.00pm. Catch you outbound bus in WOOD STREET - outside the new BBC HQ.

Service 92 to Penarth - Cefn Mably via Town Centre
Service 93 to Dinas Powys, via Town Centre
Service 94 to Cosmeston Lakes Park, Sully & Barry, via Town Centre
Service 89 via Cardiff Bay, Marina and Town Centre
Service 88
Penarth to Barry via Cosmeston Lakes Country Park


Services 92, 93 & 94 depart from Wood Street, Cardiff [Inbound and Outbound Stop].
Service 89 departs from Custom House St., Cardiff.

Best Value is a Day to Go ticket for all day travel on all buses in the Cardiff & Penarth travel area. Price around £4.00. ($5)  Must be purchased from  the Driver on first bus boarded. Please note - only CASH is accepted (or a Welsh Bus Pass or a Cardiff Bus Pass).

TRAIN
Penarth is easily accessed by train from London, Birmingham, Bristol and Southampton by regular direct trains to Cardiff Central. Depart London (Paddington) every hour taking 2hrs to Cardiff, and regularly from other regional cities - e.g. From Bristol in just 45 minutes.

Change at Cardiff Central to Platform 8 and take the Penarth Train every 15 minutes throughout the day, 30 minutes at nightime. Journey Time just 12 minutes. Buy a Return Ticket for greater savings for same day travel.  Welsh Bus Pass Users can get a special rate ticket to travel into Penarth - ask at the Ticket Office.

Local trains towards Penarth run from Merthyr, Aberdare, Rhymney & Caerphilly, changing at Cardiff Central, Platform 7 and/or 8.

TAXIS
There are two types of taxi in the Cardiff area. Hackney Cabs, painted black and white, which can be hailed at Central Station and other taxi ranks in the city centre. And Private Hire, which MUST be ordered over the telephone from one of the Cardiff based companies. Online App company OLA operates in and around Cardiff and Penarth.  Fares are broadly similar, but you are not able hail a Private Hire car in the street, as it is illegal for them to pick you up without prior booking by phone or via an online App.  A typical fare to Penarth is £12-14 in 2020, but a little higher after 11pm.  Penarth based taxis may also pick you up if you prefer, but only by prior arrangement.


AIR
Cardiff International Airport (CWL) is located just a 30 minute ride from Penarth. Services to many European countries and for Long Distance, via KLM Airlines, you can connect into the Far East, Singapore and Australia with a single change at Amsterdam. NEXT BIKES
NEXT bikes can be hired in and around Penarth, for a few hours ride. Current pick-up locations are on the Esplanade, Town Centre (outside the former Lloyds Bank), Cosmeston Lakes and Cardiff Bay Barrage. Credit Card payment or an account is required.
